Dáil na nÓg
Comhairle na nÓg
Comhairlí are based in every county and city council region. Young people are elected onto their own city or county Comhairle. Each city and county council seek young people through schools or youth programme to put themselves forward for election to the Comhairle every year or two years.
Dáil na nÓg Council
This is an action group made up of young Comhairle representatives who attended Dáil na nÓg, which usually takes place at the beginning of each year. Dail na nOg is an annual one day event that discuss issues and matters affecting young people growing up in Ireland today.
The Council is responsible for taking action on the recommendations made at Dáil na nÓg. There are 38 members in Dáil na nÓg Council. In 2006, for the first time, the Council was entirely representative of each of the 34 delegations at Dáil na nÓg. Four other places on the Council were filled by members retained by the outgoing Council from the previous year, who remain on the Council in an advisory role. The 38 Council members ensure that work accomplished during the previous year can continue and develop further in the following year.
The main functions of the Council are to give young people the chance to follow up on what was agreed by delegates at Dáil na nÓg, to meet and present the outcomes of Dáil na nÓg to Government Ministers, Oireachtas committees, TDs and Government Officials. The Council also represents Dáil na nÓg at relevant conferences.
